Four days after making controversial remarks regarding domestic violence on ESPN2’s “First Take,” commentator Stephen A. Smith has been suspended by the network.
In a statement released Tuesday, ESPN says, “Smith will not appear on ‘First Take’ or ESPN Radio for the next week. He will return to ESPN next Wed.” Smith came under fire while discussing Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Price being suspended for two games after beating his wife, who he was engaged to at the time, in February.
While Smith spoke out against domestic abuse, it was comments like “Let’s make sure we don’t do anything to provoke wrong actions” that brought him criticism. After the suspension was announced, Smith went to Twitter to say he accepts the punishment.
