world cup biter luis suarez banned gi FIFA World Cup biter Luis Suarez banned from 2014 competitionFIFA exacted fairly severe punishment on Uruguay World Cup striker Luis Suarez, who bit Italy player Giorgio Chiellini during group play on June 24.

Suarez is banned from the remainder of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, as well as the next nine Uruguay international games and four months of FIFA soccer activities. That punishment goes into the Premiere League season. Additionally, he was fined $112,000.
“Such behavior cannot be tolerated on any football pitch and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup, when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field,” Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA disciplinary committee, says in a statement.

This incident wasn’t the first time Suarez has bitten an opponent. He has two previous incidents on his record that resulted in short-term punishments.

Uruguay says it plans to appeal FIFA’s decision before its round-of-16 match against Colombia on June 28, The News Tribune reports.
