fraternity racist homophobic prank university of chicago phi delta theta Fraternity's racist, homophobic prank makes mail carrier haul nearly 80 boxesA fraternity (or possibly two) at the University of Chicago is perhaps in a lot of trouble after a racist, homophobic prank it pulled on its mail carrier, Iran Becton.

The Phi Delta Theta fraternity (pictured) at the UofC had 79 packages delivered to its house, with Becton having to carry dozens and dozens of boxes up the stairs and into the fraternity — and all the packages were addressed to “Reggin Toggaf,” which when spelled backwards are a racial and homophobic slur.

Becton tells the Chicago Sun-Times, “About a week after Memorial Day, I had an order to bring 79 of the
boxes. I came to the address and explained to the frat
member that I would have a lot more supplies. I went back to the truck
for the boxes about six or seven times. After the last trip, one of the
frat guys came out and said it was a practical joke. Another guy said
that I should read the name backwards and I’ll get the joke.”

Phi Delta Theta claims the packages were from another fraternity pranking their house and that Becton, who is African-American, was not the intended target.

Becton says he feels “humiliated” and wants an apology. The Chicago Division Postal Inspection Services is reportedly investigating and has suspended mail delivery to the Phi Delt house until they send a written apology to Becton.

The prank also involved “the abuse and possibly the destruction of postal property,” which, as the Sun-Times notes, is a crime.

According to CBS-Chicago, the university calls the incident “deplorable” and says the school is cooperating fully with the Postal Service’s investigation.
