fx split 2 channels FX could split into two channels, one for comedy and one for dramaThere could soon be more than one FX channel in your cable lineup.

News Corp., FX’s parent company, is considering converting the Fox Soccer Channel into an entertainment network, the Los Angeles Times reports. FSC recently lost the rights to broadcast English Premier League games in the U.S. to NBC Sports Network, so its future is a little shaky.

The new FX channel, which may be called FXX (according to Broadcasting & Cable) or FX2 (presumably without the subtitle “The Deadly Art of Illusion”), would be a home for the channel’s original comedy series like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Louie,” along with comedy movies from FX’s sizable library. The current FX would remain the place for “Sons of Anarchy,” “Justified” and other drama series.

In essence, the potential change would make FX and the spinoff channel an analogue to TNT and TBS, which have a similar drama/comedy split.

News Corp. still has to convince cable and satellite operators to carry the new channel, which is not a small hurdle. If those negotiations work out, though, the new FX channel could launch before the end of the year.

Do you think the split is a good idea, or would you rather keep all your FX shows in one place?
