george rr martin comic con 2014 'Game of Thrones': George R.R. Martin says some fans have guessed 'A Song of Ice and Fire' ending

Do you have theories on how George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” will end? The author of the book series that spawned “Game of Thrones” reveals that some fans have put together the subtle clues to guess the planned ending of the saga.

“At least one or two readers had put together the extremely subtle and obscure clues that I’d planted in the books and came to the right solution. So what do I do then? Do I change it?” the author says at the Edinburgh International Literary Festival, according to The Telegraph.

“I wrestled with that issue, and I came to the conclusion that changing it would be a disaster, because the clues were there,” Martin continues. “Some of my readers who don’t read the boards, which thankfully there are hundreds of thousands of them, will still be surprised and other readers will say: ‘See, I said that four years ago, I’m smarter than you guys.'”
Martin has already released five books in the “Ice and Fire” series, with two more planned — “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring.” Neither book has a release date yet, but Martin also says that he already knows the fates of the major characters, while minor character deaths are still undecided.

Martin has revealed the ending of the series to the HBO showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, on the off chance that he is unable to officially complete the series. However, the author will be hard at work on “The Winds of Winter” this year instead of writing an episode for Season 5 of “Game of Thrones.”
Now that you know it’s possible to figure out the surprise ending for the series — what are your best guesses for who wins the Iron Throne?
