game of thrones season 4 episode 6 ratings hbo 'Game of Thrones' Season 4 ratings down, 'Penny Dreadful' premieres OK“Game of Thrones” been building up its viewership in Season 4 in leaps and bounds, but the series took a hit for “The Laws of Gods and Men.” 6.4 million viewers tuned in live, which is down from the 7.2 million viewers the week before.

Judging by the trend of Season 4, more viewers tune following the big episodes. “First of His Name” was the slowest episode in Season 4, but the series picked back up with Tyrion’s trial in episode 6. Chances are ratings for next week’s episode, “Mockingbird,” will tick back up accordingly.
The rest of HBO’s night looked good as well, as “Veep” got its season-best ratings with 1.1 million viewers, and “Silicon Valley” maintained 1.7 million viewers after hitting its high on May 4 with 1.8 million viewers. “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” also maintained with 1 million viewers watching.
Meanwhile, Showtime’s new genre series “Penny Dreadful” premiered relatively soft with 872,000 viewers. That’s lower than the 1.35 million for  “Ray Donovan” last summer, but the 1.44 million who tuned in to the premiere and encores on Sunday did beat out the series premieres of “Homeland” and “Masters of Sex.”

In good news, 62 percent of the viewers were in the adults 18-49 demo. It’s also worth noting that more than 900,000 additional Showtime subscribers watched the episode during its availability over the past week, bringing the total to 2.3 million.
