game of thrones magic the gathering bryan cogman 'Game of Thrones' writer to pen 'Magic the Gathering' movieBryan Cogman is taking the skills he’s honed on “Game of Thrones” and putting them to good use. It’s being reported that the former writing assistant-turned-writer and co-producer on the HBO hit will pen an adaptation of “Magic the Gathering” for the big screen.

Deadline broke the good news for Cogman, who wrote the “Oathkeeper” and “The Laws of Gods and Men” episodes in “Game of Thrones” Season 4. He is writing the film for 20th Century Fox, and it is being eyed at as a potential franchise. Simon Kinberg and Hasbro are backing the project.
Magic the Gathering is a fantasy card game originally created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, and later purchased by Hasbro in 1999. The game has its own set of mythology, creatures and characters, but like Dungeons & Dragons, that serves as a broad canvas for players to make their own.
“Game of Thrones” proved that fantasy can be more about the characters and politics than about the magic and fantastical creatures. Hopefully Cogman showcases this new era of Hollywood fantasy in his first feature script.
