The second annual Kapow! comic convention took place over this past weekend in London. It’s a convention dedicated to comic books and the films, TV and games they inspire. And at the DC Comics panel, some big news came out about a gay comic book character.
Bleeding Cool reports that Dan DiDio, who joined DC comics as the Vice President of Editorial in 2002, revealed that DC Comics has reversed its previously-stated decision to make a gay character a brand-new character instead of changing the sexuality of an already-established character.
DiDio says they are about to reintroduce a previously existing DC character who was previously straight and now will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.”
Bob Wayne, the Vice President of Sales at DC, added that, much like the President of the United States, the DC policy “has evolved.”
Who do you think it will be, comic book fans? Do you think it makes a difference if it’s a male character versus a female character? Would a lesbian female character, looking and dressed the way female comic book characters often look and dress, be a cop out, as it just feeds into the male lesbian fantasy issue? Sound off in the comments.
