At the White House Correspondents Dinner over the weekend, reporters asked him about former “ER” co-star Noah Wyle‘s arrest on April 23 for protesting Medicaid cuts (Clooney himself was arrested March 16 for protesting the hunger crisis in Sudan).

“I saw it, when he got handcuffed. And I wrote him. I said, ‘Do you need bail money?'” laughs Clooney. “He’s a good kid. What, he’s a kid – he’s 40. He’s a good man and I’m happy to know him.”

A Washington Post reporter suggested Clooney’s next mission should be to get Anthony Edwards arrested for protesting and Clooney responded, “We’ll get everybody arrested. Last time I was here, I was in handcuffs.”

We really like the idea of a marauding band of “ER” stars protesting things – we’re looking at you, Julianna Margulies.

Clooney also had a few political comments. In regards to doing another political film (like 2011’s “The Ides of March”), Clooney says, “I just like doing films. I don’t really think of it like looking for political films. I just do films that I’m interested in, and I was interested in the same subject mater and thought I’d do it. You know. You don’t look for genres in particular, you look for good scripts.”

And as for the presidential campaign so far, Clooney says, “Because I’m an old Democrat, I kind of try to stay out of the Republicans’ primary and let them do their thing. Then during the general election, you have a conversation about it. That seems to be the fair thing to do.”
