glee cory monteith season 5 'Glee' Season 5: Episode 3 will deal with Cory Monteith's death“Glee” has made plans to deal with Cory Monteith‘s death in its third episode of the season — but just how the show addresses it is still being worked out.

“The third episode will deal with the Finn Hudson character being written out of the show,” FOX Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said Thursday (Aug. 1) at the TCA summer press tour. The story is still coming together, he says, but “it will deal directly with the incidents” that led to Monteith’s death in early July.

Reilly adds that the episode won’t necessarily write out Finn by mirroring the real-life events of Monteith’s death. He also says “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy and the cast will film some public service announcements that address addiction.

“You see some people struggling with addiction and it’s clear. They’re very easily put into a category. ‘He was dark.’ ‘She was always a partier,'” Reilly says. “Cory was a big, open, wonderful life force. … He was very open about [his addiction] in his past, not as open about it in the present. Nobody was shocked, but everybody was ultimately not shocked because it was an accident. It was not an intentional thing — it was an accident that happened to somebody struggling with an addiction.”

The first two episodes of the season, Reilly says, will be more or less typical “Glee” episodes, both of which will feature Beatles songs. Episode 3 will deal with Monteith’s passing, and the show will then take a couple of weeks off for the World Series. After that, Reilly says, it will “reset” following Finn’s departure.

“Glee” premieres Sept. 26 on FOX.
