Much like the members of New Directions, “Glee” has always been an underdog. FOX CEO and Chairman Peter Rice says the show has become one of TV’s greatest, even though people “assumed it was going to fail” before its premiere.
“I think ‘Glee’ is one of the great shows in television history. It was so hot and so big,” he says at the 2014 Television Critics Association summer press tour. “It touched so many hearts and brought social issues to the forefront.”
Although the show’s sixth and final season has been shortened, that decision was made so the creative team can bring the best form of closure to fans.
“We want to go out in a way that celebrates it,” Rice explains. “We thought that finding 13 episodes and compacting it and doing a straight run was a better way to finish the show.”
