ed oneill jane lynch 320 'Glee's' Jane Lynch avoids 'Modern Family' feud with Ed O'Neill [UPDATE]Never confuse Jane Lynch for her track-suited alter ego on “Glee.”

Besides having more fashion sense than Sue Sylvester, Lynch is good about taking the high road when it comes to personal slights.

The actress and her reps have not deigned to lash back at “Modern Family” star Ed O’Neill‘s recent comments that Lynch didn’t deserve her Emmy (calling her character “one-note”) but that his co-star Sofia Vergara did instead.

E! online was apparently so repulsed by O’Neill’s comments, they emailed her rep, who responded, “Thanks for being repulsed, but let it go, that’s what we’re doing.”

Good on you, Jane.

To be fair, although O’Neill’s comments were ill-advised, they weren’t meant to be cruel or insulting.

“I love Jane, honestly I do,” he had told international press. “I’m dying to star in one of Christopher Guest’s movies alongside her, but I don’t think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part. [Her character Sue Sylvester] is just a one-note character.

Sofia [Vergara],is just so, so funny,” he continues about his nominated co-star. “I don’t think people realize how hilarious she is. She’s so sharp with her wit, it’s amazing.”

Frankly, that’s just his opinion and he has the right to say so. In fact, Zap2it said as much when we were predicting the Emmys, but we thought Julie Bowen deserved the statuette instead. Give O’Neill a break. Ask yourself, “What would Jane Lynch do?”

[UPDATE: TV Guide Canada had misquoted O’Neill and has offered up a formal apology. His actual quote, as transcripts show, is as follows:

“I’m one of Jane Lynch’s biggest fans. I love Jane Lynch. She is a genius. But at the same time I said ‘Sofia could win’ because … and I’ve only seen Glee a couple of … I’ve only seen Glee once. But I thought Jane’s role is rather one-dimensional. It’s kind of strident. It’s always kind of the same. I’ve seen her be much better. So I thought ‘Sofia’s funnier,’ and I think she is in these two comparative roles. Anyway, Jane won. But I was hoping that Sofia would.” Wow, that’s pretty different from what was original offered. We’re glad we gave O’Neill the benefit of the doubt.]
