jane lynch time 'Glee's Jane Lynch: Obama 'just nicely walking the middle' on gay issues

“Glee” star Jane Lynch and “It Get’s Better” campaign founder Dan Savage recently got together for a State of the Gay Union with Newsweek, and among the issues addressed in their conversation is their mutual disappointment with the progress under President Barack Obama.

]]>Dec.19 Senate vote to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” but both Lynch and Savage see the problems as much greater. “As a gay person, I don’t want to be separate from the rest of the world,” says Lynch. “I remember I went to a lesbian event when I first moved here to Los Angeles, and this woman said to me, “Oh, it’s just for us.” I didn’t like that at all. I want to be in the human community. I don’t want to be separate.” Moving beyond politics, Lynch speaks candidly about how sexuality hasn’t interfered with her own career, but remains a problem in film and television for many gay actors. “I can be gay as a character actor,” Lynch says, “but I don’t think Julia Roberts can be right now. I think when you’re projecting your hopes and dreams for romantic love onto an actor, knowing they’re gay…Well, you have to think there’s some chance this could actually happen.”
