FX has given a pilot order to “American Horror Story,” a drama that Murphy and Falchuk co-wrote and which Murphy will direct. FX isn’t saying what the show is about — although we’re guessing that it’s some kind of horror story that takes place in America. Falchuk does say that the show will play in the horror genre, “but with our own subversive sensibilities.”

The pilot is kind of a homecoming for Murphy and Falchuk, who worked on “Nip/Tuck” together at FX before creating “Glee” with Ian Brennan. FX boss John Landgraf is glad to have the duo back: “‘American Horror Story’ is a wildly brilliant original series,” he says. “Ryan and Brad Falchuk … are evil geniuses.”

Production on the “Horror Story” pilot is scheduled for April. If FX orders it to series, it will film in the late spring and summer and could be on the air by the fall. That, presumably, would allow Murphy and Falchuk to concentrate on Season 3 of “Glee.”

“As for ‘Glee,’ fans can rest assured that we haven’t taken our eyes off that ball for a second,” Murphy says. “We’ve broken the stories for the season’s remaining episodes and we’ve got big things planned for our little glee club as it strives to make it past Regionals to the all-important Nationals competition in New York City.”

Murphy and Falchuk’s fellow “Glee” exec producer Dante Di Loreto will also be an exec producer on “American Horror Story.”
