tina fey amy poehler golden globes 2013 gi Golden Globes 2013: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler nail their opening monologueAfter three years with Ricky Gervais as host, the 70th annual Golden Globes turned the reins over to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts.

Good choice.

The “Saturday Night Live” alumni and real-life BFFs pretty much killed their opening monologue (duologue?) at Sunday’s (Jan. 13) show. Some highlights from their remarks:

Fey: “I wish you could feel the excitement in the room …”
Poehler: “Yes, you can smell the pills from here.”

Fey: “Ricky Gervais couldn’t be here tonight, because he’s technically no longer in show business.”
Poehler: “When you run afoul of the Hollywood Foreign Press, they make you host the show two more times.”

Fey, to “Girls” creator/star Lena Dunham: “If they’re forcing you to do all that nudity, just tell us. Give us a signal … and we’ll call child services for you.”

Poehler, on “Zero Dark Thirty” director Kathryn Bigelow: “I haven’t been following the controversy surrounding ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ but when it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron.”

Fey, on Anne Hathaway‘s “Les Miserables” performance: “I have not seen someone so totally alone and abandoned since you were on stage with James Franco at the Oscars.”

Poehler: “Meryl Streep is not here tonight. She has the flu — and I hear she’s amazing in it.”
