golden globes best dressed Golden Globes 2014 Best Dressed: Lupita Nyong'o, Anna Gunn, Sarah Hyland, and more

The 71st Golden Globe Awards red carpet on Sunday (Jan. 12) started off as a disaster thanks to a burst pipe. Despite the puddle of water drenching half the carpet, the stars fearlessly dominated the pre-show with their beautiful long gowns. So who was the best dressed of the night?

Lupita Nyong’o, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for “12 Year’s a Slave,” proved that being a Golden Globes newbie doesn’t mean you have to show up looking less-than-glamorous. Nyong’o wore an amazing, clean-cut Ralph Lauren gown with cape-like sleeves.

“Breaking Bad’s” Anna Gunn wowed in a champagne mermaid gown. She kept her hair simple to balance out the drama of her dress train — and her series, which is nominated for Best TV Series Drama.

“Modern Family’s” Sarah Hyland kept her look young, topping off her salmon-colored drop waist gown with a skinny belt. But the best part of her outfit was her hair — she used the runway for inspiration and rocked a headband braid updo.

“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke — rocking her natural hair color in loose, wavy curls — stunned in a silver lacey Proenza Schouler gown. The form-fitting dress had a front slit, making the mature dress a little younger.

“Parenthood’s” Monica Potter, nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television, went full glam on the red carpet with her Romona Keveza gown, Irene Neuwirth jewelry, Gianvito Rossi shoes and a Edie Parker clutch.

Amy Poehlerone half of the hosting duo for the night, beat her partner Tina Fey on the red carpet with her all-black dress and sleek hair. A little goes a long way, and Poehler’s tiny little cutout in the front of her dress added the right amount of edge to an otherwise classic look.

“Wolf of Wall Street’s” Margot Robbie kept her look simple, wearing a clean-cut white gown with metallic details around the sleeves and bodice and a sky-high slit on the skirt.

Amy Adams, nominated for Best Actress, Musical or Comedy for “American Hustle,” kept herself in character and rocked a deep-V neckline like all her outfits in the movie. But she modernized her hair, sweeping it up into an elegant updo.

“Enlightened” star Laura Dern went for the sex kitten look on the red carpet. Wearing her hair loose and down, she chose a form-fitting, backless gown with a beautiful design all down the front.

Who do you think won the red carpet for the 2014 Golden Globes? Did we miss anyone?
