Jennifer Lawrence certainly is glad she crossed paths with David O. Russell.

A year after the writer-director gave her a big run on the film-award circuit — culminating in an Oscar win for best actress — for “Silver Linings Playbook,” he helped set another potential one in motion by guiding her to a best supporting actress win for “American Hustle” Sunday (Jan. 12) at the 71st Golden Globe Awards.

After taking the stage without incident to be greeted by presenters Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, thus avoiding her infamous stair-tripping as she claimed her Oscar, Lawrence recalled doing a Google search on Russell after she saw his 2004 film “I Heart Huckabees.”

She recalls, “I thought, ‘This is the most brilliant man in every single way,” adding that the fact he eventually would play such a major role in her career was a “weird and wonderful” twist.

In the disarming way that has become her award-show trademark, Lawrence then said she’d watched all of this year’s nominees. “OK, I didn’t watch all of them,” she added to much audience laughter, but noted the high level of work by the other nominated actresses.

And openly questioning why she was “so scared and shaking” because her win was “a good thing,” Lawrence then instructed the award-giving community, “Don’t ever do this again.”

Time will tell, and soon, whether her request will be met … but some people undoubtedly think that’s unlikely.
