gwyneth paltrow sun gi Gwyneth Paltrow says the sun can't be bad for you because 'it's natural'Gwyneth Paltrow is once again having shade thrown her way — oddly enough, over comments she made about sun exposure.

The actress and lifestyle goop-ru submits to an interview in the August issue of the British Cosmopolitan. It’s mostly standard celebrity-puff stuff about whether she likes Botox (she doesn’t), her fitness routine and her favorite diet-breaking foods (the occasional lobster roll or cappuccino).

So far, so nothing out of the ordinary — until she shares her view on sun exposure.

“We’re human beings and the sun is the sun — how can it be bad for you?” she tells the magazine. “I think we should all get sun and fresh air. I don’t think anything that is natural can be bad for you — it’s really good to have at least 15 minutes of sun a day.”

It’s true that sunlight can help the body can synthesize vitamin D — but it’s also true that prolonged exposure of unprotected skin to the sun can result in skin damage and is linked to higher risk of skin cancer.

What really seems to be sticking in people’s craw is her “I don’t think anything that is natural can be bad for you” comment. Aside from it being empirically not true, it feeds the perception that Paltrow and her charmed life are not entirely in touch with the real world (and in this case, copious medical findings).

That may or may not be true, but when she keeps saying things like this it’s not hard to believe.
