The “Harry Potter” film franchise has been over for more than two years, but fans are still just as frenzied about its leading man. Daniel Radcliffe attended the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 1 to promote his new film “Kill Your Darlings,” and the “Potter” fans in attendance became so impassioned that he needed bodyguards and police to escort him into the film’s premiere. Even when he was inside, the windows of the building reportedly rattled because of the crowds of people surrounding it.

“Thankfully, it’s not always like this,” Radcliffe admits at the press conference for the movie, via Yahoo. “I’ve been dealing with it in various ways since I was 11. I don’t take it seriously, actually I think it’s funny.”

Radcliffe, 24, is venturing into the dramatic with “Kill Your Darlings.” His second post-“Harry Potter” movie (the first being “The Woman in Black”) follows him as the poet Allen Ginsberg. The film deals with subjects of drug use and homosexuality — neither of which “Potter” really touched on.

Up next, Radcliffe is heading to the Toronto International Film Festival, where he’ll be promoting three movies: “Kill Your Darlings,” “The F Word” and the fantasy horror flick “Horns.”
