'Haven' boat sinks: Duke's Cape Rouge submerged in Nova Scotia

“Haven” Season 5 audiences might not be seeing as much of Duke Crocker’s boat, the Cape Rouge. That’s because the real boat used for exterior and dock shots in the Syfy series has sunk.

The Cape Rouge began sinking into the LaHave River in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia on Monday (March 10). While the cause of the sinking remains unknown, local officials noted that the boat’s stern was quickly submerged. Initial worries and efforts were focused 4500 liters of diesel fuel and 180 liters of engine oil that could contaminate the river.

Keith Laidlaw with the Canadian Coast Guard identified the boat — also called The Hannah — as the one used on “Haven.” “It was brought here to Bridgewater in the fall after filming of the ‘Haven’ show,” he said in a statement to the Halifax Chronicle Herald. “They keep it here for the winter.”

The sinking of the Cape Rouge apparently occurred quickly, with no evidence of a problem noticed on Sunday. Not fully submerged, efforts to salvage and re-float the ship are reportedly underway.

Let’s hope so — where would Duke (Eric Balfour) live if the Cape Rouge were not around?
