anson mount hell on wheels 'Hell on Wheels' Season 3 officially a go with new showrunnerAMC has given the green light to a third season of “Hell on Wheels” now that it has a new showrunner in place.

John Wirth, a veteran writer and producer whose credits include “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “V” and “Nash Bridges,” is joining the series as executive producer. Season 3 of “Hell on Wheels” is set to premiere next summer.

Wirth’s hiring ends a six-week period in limbo for the show. AMC initially gave the go-ahead for a third season in late October, then backtracked a few days later when showrunner John Shiban followed creators Joe and Tony Gayton in departing the series. AMC then made the renewal contingent on hiring someone to take Shiban’s place.

“Hell on Wheels,” which stars Anson Mount, Common and Colm Meaney, averaged 3.2 million viewers per episode last season (including DVR viewing).
