“I Dream of NeNe” star NeNe Leakes is voicing an opinion that most on the outside looking in have about reality TV. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Leakes admits that being a reality star isn’t all it’s cracked up to be sometimes.
“To be honest, it’s a blessing and a curse,” she says. While it’s given her many new opportunities she might not have had otherwise, Nene explains, ” It’s a curse because I neglect my husband and my children while I’m working so hard. Plus it breaks up friendships and marriages. You also have so many people trying to come into your life because people think they know reality stars.”
Some friendships become trying, NeNe says, as people who that she’ll be able to open the door to fame. That’s not always possible, though. “It can be a lot to deal with,” NeNe laments.
Luckily, the upsides help make things alright. For instance, Leakes reveals she didn’t have to audition for her roles on “Glee” and “The New Normal,” so the difficulties many face when trying to get into TV haven’t hit her just yet. However, NeNe says she’s heading to Los Angeles for the next pilot season in hopes of getting another TV show, just like other actors looking for a job. Leakes is also working on writing her own TV show, which she would also produce. So it sounds like curse or no, she is here to stay.
