ice t veteran gymnastics fallon Ice T defends his gymnastics past, talks being a veteran of the army

When “Law and Order: SVU” star Ice-T went on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” he found himself discussing two very different aspects of his past.

First, Fallon thanked him for his service in the army back when he was stationed in Hawaii. “I was humping around out there in the Kohala Islands. Humping, army people know what that means. That means carrying equipment through the mountains,” Ice-T says. “I went airborne, but my recruiter had lied to me. He didn’t tell me that there was no airborne in Hawaii. I can say everything good about the army, but don’t trust your recruiter. They’re like, ‘Oh you’ll get a Jacuzzi in your room.’ No, so I had terminate jump status to be in Hawaii. But it’s a beautiful place.”

Ice-T was proud of his service, and had a lot of nice things to say about his fellow veterans. “At the end of the day, I’ve got nothing but respect for all of the people in the armed forces. It’s serious business,” Ice-T says.

Fallon also brought up a surprising fact about the “Law and Order: SVU” star: he used to do gymnastics. “I was in high school gymnastics. You’ve got to be strong as hell to do gymnastics,” Ice-T says in defense of his sport. “All the girls were in gymnastics so I was like, ‘I’m going to do that.’ People now are like, ‘Oh you did gymnastics,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, and I’ll punch you in the face too.'”

Ice-T is confident that his series can break an important record — the longest running series on TV. “We’re at 15 [seasons], and I want to get to 20,” Ice-T says. “That’s the record. ‘Bonanza’ has the record. I think we can do it. We’ve got a great cast right now, we’ve got the best ratings. We’re rolling.”
