imagine dragons billboard music awards gi Imagine Dragons wins Billboard Music Award for 2 year old album

As if Billboard’s definition of “rock” music isn’t confusing enough, with people like Lana Del Ray and Lorde nominated for Top Rock Album, things took an even stranger turn during the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.
Imagine Dragons won for their album “Night Visions,” which is great and all. Unless you take into account that “Night Visions” was released in 2012. That’s right, the album is nearly two years old, which makes the show very cutting edge.
How does a two-year-old album win an award for best rock album of the year? Well, it turns out Billboard doesn’t care about new music as much as the world. Instead, their awards are based on chart performance, which makes some sense considering they’ve monopolized that little piece of the music industry. That means “Frozen’s” “Let It Go” will probably be winning trophies for the next decade. Make sure you’re ready for that.
