This is advice Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich offered in the oft-quoted “Wear Sunscreen” article. Now we know why she said that.

Handwritten love letters from Hollywood legend James Dean to his then girlfriend Barbara Glenn are being auctioned off at Christie’s in London. The couple dated for two years. The three letters written in the 1954 are expected to get up to $25,000.

In one letter he writes of the play he’s performing in, “The Immoralist.” He calls the play “a piece of s***” but he went on to say he believe it will “probably be a monster success.”

In another letter, he jokingly tells Glenn he’s moving on from their relationship.

“Darling I haven’t written because I have fallen in love,” he wrote. Dean then adds that his new love is his horse “Cisco the kid.”

Dean was killed in a car accident in 1955 at age 24.

The auction is scheduled for Nov. 23.
