Not only was Jennifer Lopez the first Latina to receive the 2014 Billboard Music Award’s most prestigious honor, the Icon Award, but she was also the first woman.
It’s hard to believe with how much talent there is in the music world this would be the first time either group has been represented; but it is important to note the Icon Award has only been received by three others. Lopez joins fellow recipients Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder and Prince. The accolade recognizes an artist’s achievement and remarkable contribution to pop music within the course of their career.
After performing two dynamite songs during the show the “American Idol” judge took to the stage, humbly saying, “Music has always been my first love,” before thanking everyone from her past and present that supported her through her career and all 10 studio albums. Long-time friends Leah Remini and Benny Medina were in the audience to watch Lopez accept her award.
The former fly girl ended her speech with an inspiring note to the “little ones”, saying, “Have faith. Dream big. Think big and know that anything is possible.”
