jerome harrison lions tumor getty Jerome Harrison's voided NFL trade may have saved his lifeJerome Harrison, a running back for the Detroit Lions, was poised to be traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for running back Ronnie Brown and a pick in the 2013 NFL draft. All that stood in the way was the physical that is usually conducted prior to a trade. But the trade was voided after what was initially reported as “previously undisclosed health issues.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that two league sources tell him the health issues are actually a brain tumor that was revealed during Harrison’s physical. Without the trade  being made, no physical would’ve been conducted – so it may have saved Harrison’s life.

The sources also tell Schefter the tumor is now being treated and while Harrison is not expected to play again in the 2011 season, his long-term prognosis for life and even for playing professional football again appear to be positive.
