Jerryseinfeld_290 Jay Leno has said repeatedly that he wants his new prime-time show to be heavy on comedy, so it seems that he picked a pretty good first guest.

Jerry Seinfeld will help Leno kick off “The Jay Leno Show” on Monday, Sept. 14. He’ll be the first guest to appear on the show, although he wasn’t the first one booked: NBC announced last week that musical guests Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West will perform together on the first night’s show.

Seinfeld was a pretty frequent guest on “The Tonight Show” when Leno hosted, and he’s still a pretty huge name in the comedy world despite his show having been off the air for more than a decade. (He’ll also be able to promote his appearances on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which starts Sept. 20.)

He’ll also, presumably, be game to do a few minutes of stand-up or take part in comedy bits that will make up part of the show. Leno has said he won’t be following the usual desk-and-couch format with the new show and wants guests to take part in sketches and other bits.
