joe wright fifty shades of grey Joe Wright could direct 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Could Saoirse Ronan star?

“Fifty Shades of Grey” might be a best-selling novel, but it’s still a risky gamble bringing it to the big screen. That’s not going to prevent Hollywood from trying though, and the search has long been out for the man or woman who will adapt the erotic tale into a feature film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Wright is currently a top candidate to helm “Fifty Shades of Grey.” He’s an interesting choice considering the fact his previous movies — “Pride & Prejudice,” “Atonement,” “Hanna” and “Anna Karenina” — are known for their restraint. But Wright would definitely be a great catch for Focus Features and Universal Pictures, especially since he already has a relationship with them.

This isn’t a done-deal yet, and the studios are likely considering all of their options before settling on a director to helm “Fifty Shades.” Kelly Marcel is adapting the E.L. James novel, and it will be interesting to find out what rating the project ends up receiving. Considering its explicit nature, it’s hard to picture “Fifty Shades of Grey” getting any less than an R.

Wright has a strong working relationship with two actresses: Keira Knightley and Saoirse Ronan. Knightley is too old to play the part of Anastasia Steele, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to see if Wright turn to Ronan to potentially play the part — if, in fact, he gets the directors gig. Do you think Ronan would make a good Anastasia?
