After working for years to get Marvel universe’s “Ant-Man” movie made, director and writer Edgar Wright suddenly departed the project. Latino Review reports that massive rewrites are what caused Wright and his writing partner Joe Cornish to leave, saying they felt like they weren’t being trusted as filmmakers.
Saturday (May 24), Joss Whedon, the man behind “The Avengers” movies and just basically Marvel universe cohesiveness and continuity, posted the above tweet, which to the average person might seem innocuous, but Marvel nerds know it’s Whedon’s way of pouring one out for Wright.
The thing in Whedon’s hand is a Cornetto ice cream treat, which is a nod to Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy that includes “World’s End,” “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead.”
Whedon offers no words to go along with the photo. Cinema Blend speculates that it could mean anything from simply an “I love you” gesture to an “I think you’re right and they’re wrong” gesture. But it is definitely a show of support.
In other Marvel news, Drew Goddard is reportedly out as the showrunner/executive producer of Netflix’s Marvel series “Daredevil.”
