judith glassman daniels dies ap Judith Glassman Daniels dies: First female 'Life' editor was 74Judith Glassman Daniels, the first woman to hold the top editor position at Life magazine passed away in her home in Maine on Sunday (Sept. 1). She was 74.

A trailblazer for women in the publishing world, Daniels served in senior editing positions at The Village Voice and New York magazine and at Time Inc. and Conde Naste during a career that spent over 35 years in New York. Her husband, Lee Webb, tells the AP that Daniels died of stomach cancer.

Daniels, a Massachusetts native and a Smith College graduate, oversaw the creation of Savvy, a magazine for executive women, and helped found the Women’s Media Group in New York. She also oversaw Life’s 50th anniversary.

Her family is planning for an October memorial service.
