During a recent interview, trainer David Kirsch explained to People how he got the model in bikini-ready shape. It required quite a bit of dedication from Upton — twice-a-day sessions for two weeks and then a continued five- or six-days-a-week exercise until the shoot — so prepare to start early if you want to follow in her footsteps for the summer.
“[She did] boot camp circuit training mixed in with cardio,” he says. “Running, rowing and the elliptical.”
There are six areas in particular that need to look great for a Sport’s Illustrated Swimsuit cover movel: “Legs, inner thighs, hips, butt, abs, and arms.” “Anything that shows when you’re wearing a bathing suit. Which is … everything!” Kirsch says.
Of course, Upton couldn’t only work out to get that svelte body. She wasn’t allowed to have alcohol, bread, processed carbs or sugar up until the photo shoot, and didn’t get a single “cheat day.” She also had to follow Kirsch’s seven-day cleanse two weeks a month and drink protein shakes and green drinks for the other two weeks. Exhausting? Yes, but at least Upton can say it paid off.
