Don’t expect Kathy Bates to be popping up on NBC anytime in the near future.
The Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress stars on FX’s “American Horror Story: Coven” this fall. At the show’s TCA press tour session Friday (Aug. 2), she was asked if it took a show like “AHS” to bring her back to TV after the way her last series ended.
That was “Harry’s Law,” which was canceled last year after two seasons. It had pretty strong total-audience numbers (8.8 million viewers) but was among NBC’s lowest-ranking shows in the 18-49 demographic, which is the network’s priority.
Bates did not shy away from criticizing that way of thinking.
“I think they treated us like s***,” she says. “They disrespected us and our 7 to 11 million viewers, and they’re getting what they deserve.”
“AHS: Coven” is scheduled to premiere in October on FX.
