Keira Knightley isn’t generally one of those famous actresses who seems to be daring to bare all over the place. But her latest advertisement has been ruled unsuitable for children in the U.K.
A complaint was filed when the above ad, for Coco Mademoiselle perfume, aired during a broadcast of “Ice Age 2.” The complaint alleges that the ad was “overtly sexual” and that it should be not aired during children’s programming.
Chanel responds that the ad does not show any nudity, and that the character played by Knightley is “playful and sensual,” not “overtly sexual.”
But the Advertising Standards Authority, the U.K.’s independent regulator of advertising across all media, has ruled in favor of the complaint. The ASA writes that the ad has “sexually suggestive content” and that while the ad is fine for older children, it is unsuitable for young children. The ruling is that the ad must not be broadcast again “in or around programmes of particular appeal to children.”
