“Scandal’s” Kerry Washington is going to be seeing a lot more of her husband Nnamdi Asomugha in the near future. The NFL player announced his retirement from football on Friday (Dec. 27).

“I’m just grateful to be back, grateful for everything to go full circle,” Asomugha says at a press conference held at the Oakland Raiders’ headquarters. “For all of the achievements and awards, to be able to retire as a Raider ranks highest among all of those.”

Asomugha started his career with the Raiders in 2003. At the retirement announcement, he signed a ceremonial one-day contract with the team to allow him to end his career with them as well.

During his career, the 32-year-old athlete made the Pro Bowl team three times and was a two-time first-team All Pro. He had a strong eight seasons with the Raiders, but his career slid downhill after signing a five-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. He was cut from the team after two years, and then was brought on to the San Francisco 49ers before being released after only three games.

Post-retirement will be an exciting time in Asomugha’s life. He and Washington are expecting their first child in 2014.
