Even with his Oscar wins and Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, Kevin Spacey still feels like he needs to pitch himself to get the gig he wants. Hot off his “House of Cards” stint on Netflix, Spacey has still been disheartened by the apparent lack of interest from Woody Allen in casting him in one of his movies. So how did he approach the situation? By buying Allen a Netflix subscription, of course.

“I wrote him a letter, and introduced myself as an actor he may or may not know. And I sent him a Netflix subscription, because I want him to watch my work,” Spacey explains in an interview with GQ. Allen responded with “an absolutely wonderful letter” that let Spacey know he is “in contention for things in the future.”

“I may write to Martin Scorsese next,” Spacey quips.

But Spacey says he’s not at the point in career where he would let his pride get in the way of getting a role he really wants. “I believe this: If an actor wants a role or wants to work with somebody, then you do everything within reason to try to get that role. If they want you to audition, you audition. If they want you to screen-test, you screen-test. If they want you to come and tap-dance in their hallway, you tap-dance in their hallway,” he explains.

As for “House of Cards,” Spacey isn’t letting the first season’s success get to his head. He says he’s up for doing more than just two seasons if Netflix is interested, and is glad it gives him an opportunity to keep working with David Fincher.

“I’m just f***ing happy to have a great job,” Spacey says.
