kim kardashian ebay charity Kim Kardashian defends giving 10 percent of eBay sales to charity: Is she right?

Thanks to her many years in the spotlight, Kim Kardashian has earned herself a lot of money. That is why it came as a surprise to learn that only 10 percent of the money she made by auctioning her clothes for Philippines typhoon victims would actually make it into said victims’ hands.

It makes her look very bad and very greedy, and even Kardashian couldn’t ignore the bad press. The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star took to her Celebuzz blog to write a post called “Giving Comes From The Heart.”

“I don’t publicize everything I do to help charities and people all over the world. I do it because I want to,” she writes. “I do it because my dad taught me to. I do it because it’s the right thing to do. So for people to attack me for giving 10% of my eBay auction sales to the people of the Philippines, that hurts.”

According to Kardashian, about 50 percent of the money made from her auctions goes to eBay fees, Paypal fees, and the auction management agency that lists the items for her. That still means she keeps 40 percent of the money made off each auction, which could be as low as $30 or as high as several thousand dollars. Does she really need that money, or couldn’t it be put to better use?

It’s also worth noting that eBay’s Giving Works charity auction program offers discounted listing fees. And if the seller is donating 100 percent of the proceeds, eBay waives their fees altogether. Maybe Kim … uh … is not aware of the clearly stated policies on eBay’s website?

“Truth is how the # is broken down, is neither here nor there. The people of the Philippines need all of our help, no matter how big or small,” Kardashian writes. “I will continue to do what is in my heart and am happy to know many others have enjoyed purchasing from me, as they too are giving with me. Giving comes from the heart.”
