Zap2it: Some people are comparing “Don’t Trust the B**** in Apt. 23’s” Chloe and June to Laverne and Shirley. Do you see that?
Krysten Ritter: No. Whenever I read that, I think, “Wow, that’s just so untrue.” I think it’s Tom and Jerry, personally, and the formula is pretty simple. We have a cat-and-mouse game, and then we catch up for a minute and become friends, and then the cat takes off again. It does become kind of a friend dynamic between them, in Chloe’s own very messed-up way.
Zap2it: How do you describe Chloe?
Krysten Ritter: Chloe is the ultimate free spirit and has no emotional attachments — well, no attachments at all, really — to anything. She really marches to her own drum and does whatever she wants to do.

Zap2it: Have you ever had a roommate from hell?
Krysten Ritter: I’ve had my share of crazy people. I lived in models apartments when I was like 18 or 19, and that was pretty insane. But I’ve also been pretty fortunate in that I live out of a suitcase a lot, so if things get crazy, I just leave. I’m sort of like a vagabond.

Zap2it: How do you pick your roles?
Krysten Ritter: I really like variety, and I like to change it up. I like having fun scenes to do, proper scenes with another actor. I like to feel connected to the material. I like to do outrageous stuff. I like to do both drama and comedy, and I want to focus on doing stuff that I would also watch.

“Don’t Trust the B**** in Apt. 23” airs Wednesdays on ABC.
