larry king cnn 320 Larry King in talks to join 'Daily Show,' self parody gods smile

If life just hasn’t been the same for you since Larry King left CNN suspender-less and stuck with Piers Morgan, you may be in luck.

After an initial report from the New York Post, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Comedy Central has spoken with King about coming on board “The Daily Show” as an occasional contributor — la Lewis Black or John Hodgman.

“The possibility has been discussed,” claims a source. And though the phrase “in talks” has been thrown around, apparently there has only been one conversation between King and the network.

The news is hard to digest upon first hearing… bit it sort of makes sense the more you think about it. King never said that he was “retiring” (so cryptic, so Regis!), and he does have a fondness for comedy. Shortly before leaving his old post at “Larry King Live,” he announced he’d embark on a stand-up comedy tour in 2011. (The appropriately titled “Larry King: Standing Up” kicks of April 14, by the way.)

So what would you think of Larry King showing up alongside Jon Stewart for the occasional comedic diatribe? Has your TV news been lost without him or is it still too soon to miss him?
