Craig Ferguson, host of “The Late Late Show” on CBS, will be having some late, late nights early next year.
Ferguson and his wife, Megan, are expecting their first child together, the Scotland-born, “American on Purpose” (the title of his memoir) comedian announced via Twitter on Wednesday (July 14).
]]><![CDATA["Holy crackers! Mrs. F is pregnant. How did that happen? ...oh yeah I know how," he writes. "Another Ferguson arrives in 2011. The world trembles."
He even has a name in mind: “Actually trying to persuade wife that Patrick Troughton Ferguson would be awesome,” he tweets, referring to the second actor to play “Doctor Who” in the 1960s. “She says only if it’s a girl.”
He also addressed the happy news in his “Late Late Show” opening Wednesday: “I know what I’m going to do tonight, I’m going to tell you something — guess what? My wife’s pregnant! [Applause] I know! [More applause] It’s funny though — that’s the noise that I made when I found out! Well — not when I found out… That’s right, I give myself a round of applause after sex. Somebody has to. …
“So anyway, my wife’s pregnant, she may be pregnant for some time. I believe traditionally — it’ll go all the way to the birth, so — it’s probably best if you don’t ask me for news ALL THE TIME. I’ll tell you if anybody’s born.” (We’ll post video from Ferguson’s monologue as soon as it’s available.) (UPDATE: The video is below.)
Ferguson and his wife married in December 2008 after dating for several years. He also has a 9-year-old son from a previous marriage.
