lauryn hill prison gi Lauryn Hill begins three month prison sentence for tax evasion

Lauryn Hill‘s three month prison sentence has begun. Sources confirm that she arrived at her assigned federal correctional facility in Danbury, Conn. on July 8.

Hill landed in prison for failing to pay almost $1 million in taxes. Though she did eventually pay off her debt, Hill still ended up earning a prison sentence.

Once Hill is released from prison, she still won’t be off the hook. E! News reports that she’ll spend three months in house arrest and an additional nine months under parole supervision. However, since she did pay off her debt, Hill’s attorney says her sentenced was reduced.

“The Court today viewed the totality of Ms. Hill’s circumstances — her incredible career, her decades of charitable works, her responsibilities to her six children, her full acceptance of responsibility for her actions, and her voluntary and full payment prior to sentencing of over $970,000 of back taxes owed — in rejecting the government’s request for a 36 month prison sentence and sentencing Ms. Hill to 3 months of prison and 1 year of probation, 3 months of which to be spent in house arrest,” attorney Nathan Hochman tells E! News.
