law-and-order-svu-munch-roast-uncut.JPG“Law & Order: SVU” bid farewell to Richard Belzer as a member of the regular cast on Wednesday (Oct. 16), and the show gave his character, Detective John Munch, a roast to send him off.

The scene as it plays in the episode runs about 3 1/2 minutes. “SVU” showrunner Warren Leight has shared a longer version of it online, and you can watch it below.

The uncut version of the roast, which clocks in at a little over five minutes, allows Belzer — a stand-up comic long before he started playing Munch — some more room to crack jokes, and for the other characters to get a few more affectionate digs in at Munch as well. There’s also a better explanation for Munch’s nonplussed reaction to receiving the shadow box with his Baltimore and NYPD badges.

As mentioned in the episode, Munch is taking his mandatory retirement from the NYPD and moving to the district attorney’s office as an investigator. So while he’ll no longer be a regular part of “SVU,” there’s a decent chance he could return to the show in the future.
