Donald-Glover-Girls-HBO-Lena-Dunham.jpg“Community” fans, take note: Donald Glover has been cast in Season 2 of HBO’s “Girls” — but his exact role has yet to be revealed.

Lena Dunham (the creator, writer, star, director and producer of the show) confirmed Glover’s casting to TV Line, joking that she wants to avoid spoilers but that “We’re entering sort of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ territory, and he’s going to be the ship captain.”

Dunham also hinted that next season will have “a lot of fun guest stars. I really think with Season 2, we sort of hit new heights of delirium and of fantastically lewd behavior.”

Speculation began last week after Dunham tweeted out a photo of Glover on set (pictured) with the caption “Evilish Gambino” — a play on Glover’s musical stage name, Childish Gambino. Later, the New York Post published a picture of the two on set in Brooklyn with the headline “‘Girls’ quick fix: Dunham films with black actor first week back on set” (referencing the criticism the show has received for its characters’ lack of diversity).

In its first six episodes, “Girls” has not shied away from raunchy sex scenes and outrageous humor, and it will be interesting to see how Glover (or any other guest stars) fit into the mix.

What do you think about his casting? Is it a good move for him, or for “Girls”?
