gina gershon house of versace lifetime movie gi Lifetime announces 'House of Versace,' starring Gina Gershon as Donatella VersaceGet ready for Donatella Versace, the Lifetime movie.

The cable network announced on Thursday (Aug. 15) that it has in the works the original movie “House of Versace,” telling the story of Donatella’s journey to carry on slain brother Gianni‘s legacy after his 1997 murder.

Gina Gershon (“Showgirls”) will star as Donatella, with Enrico Colantoni (“Veronica Mars”) bringing the late Gianni to life. The legendary Raquel Welch is on tap to play Donatella’s supportive Aunt Lucia, with Colm Feore (“The Borgias”) set to play Santo, Donatella’s brother.

The film is based on Wall Street Journal reporter Deborah Ball‘s book “House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival,” and follows as Donatella is thrust into the spotlight as head designer of Gianni’s empire after his murder. Facing ridicule, she falls victim to drug addiction and nearly bankrupts the company. With the aid of her family, she enters rehab and returns stronger than ever, ready to build Versace into the influential fashion house it is today.

Following the premiere of the film, Lifetime will also air the hour-long documentary “Versace: Beyond the Headlines,” which will provide an indent look at Gianni’s start in the industry, his rise and creation of the Versace empire, and his untimely death.

Do you think Gershon is a good choice to bring Donatella to life?

“House of Versace” will premiere Sunday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
