Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods‘ now public romance is playing out like theater of the absurd, and that’s without even acknowledging Vonn’s uncanny resemblance to Elin Nordegren, the ex-wife Woods cheated on with strippers and call girls galore. It’s even weird beyond the strange relationship announcement that paired a posed-to-look-candid photo shoot with the celebrity equivalent of a Facebook “relationship status” change.
The latest tidbits to surface in this unlikely love story are as follows: Lindsey once publicly mocked Tiger amid his famous sex scandal, and … she spent one whole hour sitting idly in Tiger’s Mercedes while he watched his daughter’s soccer game with Elin.
The New York Daily News points to their own story from 2007 about a disagreement between Time magazine and Vonn’s entourage — including then husband Thomas Vonn — about whether Lindsey knew her comments were on the record when she criticized Woods’ public apology. The Time piece described Vonn acting out an imagined “Saturday Night Live” sketch for her friends, in which she tells the disgraced golfer, “There’s something you don’t know about me. Tiger, you’re like my idol, and I too have a sex problem.”
Lindsey reportedly said of the supporters at Tiger’s press conference, “They’re like, ‘Yeah, you’re awesome, you go have that sex.'”
But times, they have changed. Now Lindsey is so dedicated to Tiger that she will wait for one whole hour in his car while he watches his daughter Samantha’s soccer game, with Elin watching in the stands nearby. Some have surmised Lindsey was trying to avoid coming face-to-face with her new man’s ex-wife, but really? Doesn’t this woman have anything better to do with her time than hide out in a car for 60 minutes?
The same day she sat out the soccer game, Vonn wrote a note to her Facebook fans to accompany the loved-up Tiger photo that read, “I don’t plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends.” So, until she changes her mind — which we predict will be sooner than later — and addresses some obvious questions, we are left to simply gawk.
