lizzie borden Lizzie Borden took an ax ... to the Travel ChannelAnyone who went through a phase in junior high and read every book they could find on the subject has an opinion on the case of Lizzie Borden.

The Fall River, Massachusetts spinster was accused of killing her father and stepmother with a hatchet in 1892. Borden was acquitted but that didn’t keep her from being found guilty in popular opinion and a children’s rhyme endures:

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one.

Her family home at 92 Second St. — where the murders took place — still stands and has been turned into a bed and breakfast. Of course, there are claims it’s haunted.

Seeing as it’s the season for it, Travel Channel’s “Ghost Adventures” paid a visit. In the episode airing on Saturday, Oct. 22 Nick and Zak get a little more than they bargained for when they are “overwhelmed with unknown aggression.”
