locke and key cover 'Locke & Key': Rejected FOX pilot will screen at Comic ConThe TV adaptation of the comic book “Locke & Key” won’t be coming to your TV this fall, but if you’re at Comic-Con you can get a glimpse of what might have been.

The pilot for the “Locke & Key” series, which was reportedly a strong contender to make FOX’s 2011-12 schedule but missed the final cut, will screen at Comic-Con on Friday, July 22. It will be followed by a panel with comic creators Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, pilot writer-executive producer Josh Friedman (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) and exec producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

It’s rare for an un-picked-up pilot to receive such a public screening. “Locke & Key” — which stars Miranda Otto, Nick Stahl and Jesse McCartney — is seeing the light of day thanks to IDW Publishing, which publishes the comic and got permission from pilot producer 20th Century Fox TV to show the pilot to fans.

Here’s what IDW has to say about the show: “The most talked-about pilot not on the fall schedule was the FOX production of ‘Locke & Key.’ This one-time-only screening of the entire pilot will show you just what a void there will be on your TVs this fall. Come watch the special filmed adaptation of ‘Welcome to Lovecraft’ and see the Eisner-nominated comic brought to life.”

Those who have had a chance to see the “Locke & Key” pilot have mostly praised it. We’ll be curious to see the fan response at Comic-Con — and whether it causes FOX to rethink its decision.
