She’s played law enforcers and lawbreakers, and Katee Sackhoff is enjoying being on the “right” side of the line again.
The “Battlestar Galactica” and “24” alum is in her third season as Deputy Victoria “Vic” Moretti on the Monday A&E mystery series “Longmire.” The character has her toughness, but she’s also showing more vulnerability over a stalking matter related to her past … and also over her more evident personal feelings for Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), which are reaching a critical point.
“Vic’s on an interesting little roller coaster this year,” the friendly Sackhoff tells Zap2it. “We sort of figure out why her stalker is doing what he’s doing, and whether Vic is actually at fault for it. It’s an interesting turn of events.”
Playing out the deepening relationship between Vic and Longmire is “really fun,” Sackhoff confirms.
“It’s that ‘Moonlighting’ thing, in the sense that people are expecting it and you hold it back and hold it back — and when it finally happens, you have to come up with different stakes, because you’ve already played your hand creatively. It’s not even a question of ‘if,’ because it’s in the ‘Longmire’ books (by Craig Johnson), but it’s more ‘when’ and ‘how’ and if it’s going to work.”
Even as her connection to Longmire tightens, Vic remains very much her own person, which is one of the aspects Sackhoff enjoys most about playing the part.
“Vic is incredibly self-sufficient and kind of a loner in a sense,” the actress reasons. “She’s so different from everyone else there, and it’s interesting to watch her around Walt. She’s so strong all the time, and when she’s with him, we see a softer side. We’ve seen it a bit with her husband as well, but there’s this physical and emotional release when she’s around someone she feels safe with.”
