mad men season 4 cast 'Mad Men': AMC, Lionsgate talking about a new deal“Mad Men’s” studio and network have started talking about extending their deal to a possible sixth season — and maybe even past that.

AMC, which airs the Emmy-winning drama, and Lionsgate, which produces it, currently have a license agreement that runs for five seasons (Season 4 premieres Sunday). But they’ve started talking about extending the deal through at least a sixth season, according to Variety.

The catch — and it’s a pretty big one — is that Lionsgate only has creator Matthew Weiner under contract through this season. Variety notes that the studio wants to get a sense of how much AMC will be willing to pay for the show before starting up negotiations with Weiner.

Weiner, for his part, has said in the past that he sees the series (or his involvement in it, anyway) lasting six seasons.

AMC isn’t commenting on the negotiations, while Lionsgate says in a statement that it “looks forward to ‘Mad Men’ being on the air for many years to come.”
