fake girlfriend duped others ronaiah tuiasosopo Manti Te'o's fake 'girlfriend' duped others: Ronaiah Tuiasosopo auditioned for 'The Voice'?

Anyone who thinks that Manti Te’o is the only person Ronaiah Tuiasosopo tricked with an alternate persona is a bit nave. Te’o’s fake “girlfriend” duped others, and some of them might have been the producers of “The Voice.”

According to Us Weekly, Tuiasosopo auditioned for “The Voice,” but also came up with a fake — and death-ridden — alternate identity. An insider claims that Tuiasosopo told the producers of “The Voice” that “he and his cousins started a Christian band together and were on their way to perform at a youth conference in Nevada when they got into a ‘massive’ car accident. He claimed a truck crashed into their vehicle, sending them flip-flopping all over the freeway. He also said doctors thought one of them might have been brain-dead, but miraculously, everyone was fine.”

“He had this insane sob story before [he sang],” the source says. “It would make for great TV.”

Despite passing a background check (what?) and a psych evaluation for the upcoming season, Tuiasosopo allegedly failed to impress the judges. Neither Shakira, Usher, Blake Shelton or Adam Levine reportedly turned their chairs around after his performance of Matisyahu’s “One Day,” the source says.

“Catfish” director and actor Ariel Schulman has looked into Tuiasosopo’s story and tells “Good Morning America” that he believes a number of people might have been duped by Te’o’s fake girlfriend “Lennay Kekua.” He thinks there were “a lot of other people that she was corresponding with before and maybe even during her relationship [with Te’o].”

“I stand by the guy. My heart goes out to him,” Schulman says. “He had his heart broken. He was grieving for someone, whether she existed or not. Those were real feelings.”
